PERRY - The Ballard baseball team continued its hot streak with a 12-2 drubbing of Perry June 28 at Perry.


The Bombers drilled Perry pitching for 15 hits, including eight that went for extra bases, winning for the seventh time in eight games. Ballard improved to 12-7 overall and 7-3 in the Raccoon River Conference.


Cody Wolfe and Jack Luster had huge nights on offense for Ballard, both going 4-for-4. Wolfe doubled, homered, stole a base, scored three times and drove in four runs and Luster tripled, doubled twice, stole a base, scored three times and had two RBIs.


Sam Petersen also had a big night. He went 3-for-4 with a home run, steal and two runs and RBIs apiece.


Isaac Schafbuch doubled, stole a base, scored and drove in a run and Will Stalder singled, scored twice and stole a base. Tanner Brock doubled, scored and drove in a run; Gannon Manfull singled and Reece Huen and Kade Reinertson both drove in a run.


Colin Anderson was the winning Bomber pitcher. He allowed two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts in five innings.


Austin Carpenter took the loss for Perry after giving up nine runs with three strikeouts and no walks in four innings. Gavin Boyer was 3-for-3 with two doubles for the Bluejays on offense.

WINTERSET - Ballard is getting good at this comeback thing.


For the third time in five games, the Bombers used a big seventh-inning rally to pull victory out of the jaws of defeat June 27 with a 6-3 triumph at Winterset.


Ballard trailed 3-2 going into the seventh against Winterset. The Bombers then put up four runs in the top of the inning, and pitcher Nic Edwards completed a complete-game win by blanking the Huskies in the bottom of the inning to give his team a season sweep in the series.


Edwards allowed three unearned runs on just four hits with four strikeouts and three walks on the night. He overcame three Bomber errors in the field with the support of an offense that pounded out 11 hits.


Reece Huen was 3-for-4 with two runs and a steal, Cody Wolfe finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs and Sam Petersen also went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Ballard with the bat. Jack Luster doubled, scored twice and knocked in a run; Tanner Brock finished 2-for-3; Kade Reinertson singled and drove in a run; Codey Erickson walked and scored and Brooks Fleischmann also crossed the plate once.


Casey Young took the loss for Winterset, going all seven innings and allowing five earned runs with eight strikeouts and one walk. Easton Darling was 2-for-4 with an RBI and Brady Porter singled, walked and drove in a run for the Huskies.

SLATER - Ballard came up with another huge rally to earn a Raccoon River Conference Monday, defeating Bondurant-Farrar, 7-6, in nine innings at Nite Hawk Field.


Ballard had come from five down to win a 12-inning marathon over Boone by a 10-8 score 10 days earlier. On Monday, the Bombers found themselves trailing Bondurant-Farrar 6-2 going into the bottom of the seventh, only to score four runs and force extra innings.


Neither team got on the board in the eighth. Ballard pitcher Colin Anderson blanked the Bluejays in the top of the ninth, then Ballard plated the winning run in the bottom of the inning to improve its record to 10-7 overall and 5-3 in the RRC.


Anderson gave up two hits and had two strikeouts and no walks in two scoreless innings to get the win.


Jack Luster was the starting Bomber pitcher, going six innings and allowing six runs on seven hits and five walks with nine strikeouts. Gannon Manfull tossed one scoreless inning and surrendered a hit and a walk with two strikeouts.


Luster also went 3-for-3 with a walk and a run and Isaac Schafbuch finished 3-for-4 with a double, walk, steal and three runs for Ballard on offense. Cody Wolfe finished 1-for-4 with a walk, run and RBI; Tanner Brock went 1-for-4 with two RBIs; Manfull singled and drove in a run and Kade Reinertson and Sam Petersen each picked up a hit.


Brooks Fleischmann and Nic Edwards each scored a run and Clay Estrem drew a walk.


The Bombers didn’t commit a defensive miscue and they were helped by five Bondurant-Farrar errors in the win. Nathan Anderson was the losing Bluejay pitcher in relief, giving up two runs — one earned — on five hits with one walk and strikeout apiece in two innings.


Hogan McIntosh doubled, homered and drove in two runs; Jordan Collins was 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBIs and Tanner Bedier doubled, scored and drove in a run for Bondurant-Farrar at the plate.
