ALLEMAN — The North Polk softball team easily took down South Hamilton Friday at Alleman, using two big innings to dispose of the Hawks in four innings, 14-2.
North Polk hammered South Hamilton pitching for eight runs in the first inning. The Comets added another run in the third, taking a 9-2 lead into the bottom of the fourth.
In the bottom of the fourth North Polk got hot again, scoring five times to end the game early on account of the 10-run rule. The victory put the Comets at 7-4 overall and 3-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
Bailey Hougham was the winning pitcher. Hougham gave up two runs — one earned — on six hits with three walks and two strikeouts, going all four innings.
Freshman third baseman Noelle Hoffman connected for two doubles and finished 3-for-4 with a run, steal and three RBIs to pace North Polk’s 17-hit attack on offense. Trisha Sporra was 3-for-4 with a double, steal, three runs and two RBIs; Ellie Owen ended up 3-for-4 with two runs and RBIs apiece; Sophie Swygman finished 2-for-2 with a double, steal and two runs and Rebecca Ley wound up 2-for-3 with a steal and two runs and RBIs apiece.
Hougham also had two hits, a run, steal and two RBIs. Sydney Albaugh and Paige Sandberg both went 1-for-3 with a run, RBI and steal apiece.

BONDURANT — North Polk outlasted Bondurant-Farrar for a 4-1 non-conference win in 11 innings June 5 at Bondurant.
The Comets fell behind 1-0, but tied the game with a run in the fourth. The score remained 1-1 through regulation and the first two extra innings of play.
North Polk found its offensive groove at just the right time, scoring three times in the top of the ninth to take charge. Hannah Pals came in for Sophie Swygman on the mound in the bottom of the ninth to finish off the Bluejays.
Swygman allowed one run on six hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in 7 ⅓ innings. Pals threw the last 2 ⅔ of innings, striking out eight and walking one to get the win.
Freshman Noelle Hoffman doubled and drove in two runs, Pals was 2-for-5 with a double and two steals and Sydney Albaugh went 2-for-4 with a walk and a run for North Polk on offense. Ellie Owen was 1-for-4 with a run, walk and RBI; Rebecca Ley singled, walked, scored and stole a base and Bailey Hougham and Morgan Gass each had one hit for the Comets.

DES MOINES — North Polk was doomed by a sluggish start in a 4-0 loss at Saydel June 4.
Saydel scored all four of its runs in the bottom of the first inning, courtesy of two home runs. Alle Thompson hit a big three-run homer and Sabrina McKay added a solo shot for the Eagles.
Comet pitcher Hannah Pals settled things down and kept Saydel off the board the rest of the way. But she didn’t get any offensive support as North Polk suffered its second Heart of Iowa Conference loss.
Swygman gave up four runs — three earned - on two hits in ⅓ of an inning to take the loss. Pals went the rest of the way, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits with no walks.
Pals, Ellie Owen, Trisha Sporra and Sydney Albaugh each singled once for the only Comet hits. Sporra also stole a base, Pals and Albaugh both walked once and Paige Sandberg also drew a free pass for North Polk.
Jade Olsen got the win for Saydel, giving up four hits and three walks in seven scoreless innings of work.
