SLATER — The Ballard baseball team fell just short in a comeback attempt versus Perry June 7 at Nite Hawk Field, suffering a 7-6 setback at the hands of the Bluejays.
Ballard was hurt by a four-run Perry first inning. Perry increased its lead to 7-1 going into the bottom of the fourth.
The Bombers came back with a strong three-run surge in the bottom of the the fourth to get back within three runs. Ballard pitcher Jack Luster kept Perry off the board over the final three innings to give his team a chance.
Ballard closed within 7-5 after six innings and shaved another run off the deficit in the seventh. But the Bombers couldn’t complete the comeback, falling to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the Raccoon River Conference.
Luster gave up five earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts and just one walk over seven innings in a losing effort. Austin Carpenter was the winning Bluejay hurler as he gave up five runs — just one earned — on eight hits with four strikeouts and walks apiece in 4 ⅔ innings.
Luster went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs, Nolan Payne was 2-for-2 with two walks and a run and Sam Petersen singled and drove in two runs for Ballard on offense. Will Stalder doubled and scored, Kade Reinertson and Cody Wolfe both singled and drove in a run and Isaac Schafbuch added a single.
Carpenter doubled and drove in two runs, Kaleb Olejniczak went 2-for-4 with two runs and Gavin Boyer was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Perry.

SLATER — The bats were clicking for Ballard against Gilbert in a 14-7 victory over the Tigers June 5 at Nite Hawk Field in Slater.
The Bombers came through with a whopping 21 hits, taking down the Tigers. Ballard jumped out to a 10-1 lead and easily withstood a six-run Gilbert sixth, scoring four runs of its own in the bottom of the inning to seal the deal.
Sam Petersen went 3-for-5 with a double, three runs and four RBIs and Codey Wolfe ended up 4-for-5 with two runs, a steal and an RBI to lead Ballard’s big hitting night. Reece Huen was 3-for-4 with a run, a steal and two RBIs; Jack Luster 3-for-4 with two RBIs; Tanner Brock 2-for-3 with a walk, steal, run and two RBIs and Isaac Schafbuch 2-for-5 with a run, steal and two RBIs for the Bombers.
Will Stalder added two hits and a run, Kade Reinertson doubled and scored and Nolan Payne wound up 1-for-4 with a run, steal and RBI. Schafbuch was the winning pitcher, surrendering five runs — four earned — on four walks and three hits with two strikeouts in 2 ⅔ innings.
Stalder gave up one unearned run on two hits and two walks in three innings, Hersch Maxey allowed a run and a walk and Gannon Manfull threw 1 ⅓ scoreless and hitless innings with one strikeout and no walks.
Jared Jensen allowed eight runs — six earned — on 13 hits with three strikeouts and no walks in three innings as the losing Tiger pitcher. Ben Simodynes was 1-for-3 with a run and RBI apiece and Landon Howard doubled and scored for Gilbert.

BONDURANT - Ballard started strong offensively and pitcher Colin Anderson took care of the rest in a 9-2 Bomber victory over Bondurant-Farrar June 4 at Bondurant.
Ballard scored seven runs over the first three innings to build a 7-2 lead. Anderson blanked Bondurant-Farrar the rest of the way to help his team pull away for the Raccoon River Conference victory.
Anderson gave up two earned runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and four walks in a complete-game victory. Ballard backed him with 10 hits offensively and the Bombers also took advantage of six Bondurant-Farrar errors.
Jack Luster was 1-for-4 with a run and two RBIs, Tanner Brock singled and scored three times and Reece Huen was 1-for-4 with two runs and RBI for Ballard on offense. Will Stalder was 2-for-4 with a run, Sam Petersen 2-for-2 with a walk, Kade Reinertson 1-for-4 with an RBI and Isaac Schafbuch 1-for-4 with a double and a run for the Bombers.
Quinn Waterhouse allowed seven runs, three earned, on six hits and three walks with four strikeouts in three innings as the losing Bluejay pitcher. Tanner Bedier was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run for Bondurant-Farrar at the plate.
