BONDURANT - The Ballard softball team picked up its first Raccoon River Conference victory Monday at Bondurant with a 7-4 triumph over Bondurant-Farrar.
The Bombers jumped out to a 7-0 lead through 2 ½ innings. Ballard (4-6 overall, 1-1 in RRC) scored twice in the first inning, then busted out for five runs in the third.
Maggie Larson homered and drove in three runs, Isabell Hobbs was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs and Isabella Johnson finished 2-for-4 with two runs and a steal to lead Ballard’s nine-hit attack at the plate. Abby Husak singled and scored twice; Rachel Newell was 1-for-4 with an RBI; Karlee Ahrenholtz singled, walked and scored and Carley Wilson doubled and walked.
Matty Beerbower gave up four earned runs on six hits and three walks over seven innings as the winning pitcher. Beerbower also struck out 10.

HUXLEY - A six-run fourth inning propelled Ballard to a 9-0 victory over Woodbury Central in six innings at the Ballard Tournament Friday in Huxley.
The Bombers led 1-0 going into the fourth. They added one run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings to seal the deal.
Isabell Hobbs picked up her first win of the season for the Bombers. Hobbs struck out one batter and surrendered two hits in four shutout innings on the mound.
Matty Beerbower allowed two hits in one scoreless inning of work and Emma Utley struck out one without allowing a hit or a walk in one inning of work.
Offensively, Ballard totaled 12 hits. Beerbower finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, Hobbs was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Abby Husak ended up 2-for-3 with a run, walk and steal and Molly Houge belted a solo home run.
Rachel Newell doubled, scored twice and drove in a run; Isabella Johnson singled and walked; Maggie Larson doubled; Allison Vetter singled and scored and Brynna Huen also singled once.
Ballard lost to Clarke in its first game of the tournament by a 6-0 score. Beerbower took the loss after allowing six earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and no walks in 3 ⅓ innings.
Hobbs gave up one hit and struck out one batter with no walks in 1 ⅔ innings of relief versus the Indians.
Newell, Husak and Wilson each singled once for Ballard’s only hits versus Clarke.

HUXLEY - Ballard didn’t have any answers for an explosive Carlisle offense in a 16-5 loss to the Wildcats in six innings May 31 at Gary Telford Field.
The Bombers gave up 11 hits, including four extra-base knocks, falling to 2-5 overall and starting off 0-1 in the Raccoon River Conference.
Carlisle built a 12-0 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning. Ballard put up a run in the fourth and followed with its best stretch in the fifth — pushing four more runs across the plate — to cut the deficit to seven.
The Wildcats came back with four runs in the top of the sixth. Ballard couldn’t answer in the bottom of the inning and the game ended on account of the 10-run rule.
Karlee Ahrenholtz went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Maggie Larson was 2-for-3 with two runs and RBIs apiece for Ballard in a losing effort. Abby Husak went 2-for-3 with a run, Ali Buben singled and drove in a run, Rachel Newell and Carley Wilson each chipped in a single and Isabella Johnson and Isabell Hobbs each scored once.
Matty Beerbower gave up seven earned runs on four hits with two strikeouts and nine walks in 2 ⅓ innings as the losing Bomber pitcher. Hobbs surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and three walks with two strikeouts in 3 ⅔ innings.
Molly Hoekstra gave up four hits with three strikeouts and no walks in four scoreless innings as the winning pitcher for Carlisle. Natalie McCormick homered twice and drive in six runs and Alyvia Dubois went 4-for-4 with one double, one walk, one steal and four runs and RBIs apiece to pace the Wildcats on offense.

CONRAD - Ballard earned its first two victories of the season in dominant fashion at the Comet Invitational in Conrad May 28, whipping BCLUW and Belle Plaine by a combined score of 30-4.
The Bombers trounced BCLUW by a 19-3 score in four innings and whipped Belle Plaine, 11-1, in five.
Ballard used a huge 11-run fourth inning to put BCLUW away. The Bombers tallied 14 hits, including three doubles and a home run.
Maggie Larson went deep for a grand-slam homer and also doubled and totaled five RBIs in the win over BCLUW. Isabella Johnson doubled twice and added two runs, two steals and an RBI; Isabell Hobbs went 2-for-3 with three runs, a walk and two steals and Rachel Newell was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs.
Brynna Huen added two hits and one walk, steal, run and RBI apiece. Karlee Ahrenholtz singled, walked three times, stole three bases and scored four runs; Carley Wilson was 1-for-1 with two steals, two runs and an RBI; Matty Beerbower was 1-for-2 with two walks and three runs and Molly Houge singled and drove in a run.
Beerbower was the winning pitcher after giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts and one walk in three innings. Hobbs allowed two runs on three hits in one inning of work.
Ballard jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings and coasted home against Belle Plaine. The Bombers had 11 hits, and Beerbower and Hobbs teamed to limit the Plainsmen to three.
Beerbower went 2-for-3 with a home run and four RBIs, Johnson was 3-for-4 with three runs and two steals and Larson and Huen both finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Hobbs went 1-for-2 with two walks, a steal and three runs; Newell was 1-for-3 with a run and a walk; Ahrenholtz walked twice and scored once; Wilson picked up one free pass and Ali Buben and Kylie Rigby each scored once.
Beerbower again earned the win after tossing four scoreless innings and giving up four walks and just one hit with three strikeouts. Hobbs gave up one run on two hits in one inning of work.
