WAVERLY - The Collins-Maxwell boys’ soccer team went 1-2 at the Waverly-Shell Rock Invitational Saturday in Waverly.
The Spartans defeated Western Dubuque and came up short against Waverly-Shell Rock and Center Point-Urbana, moving to 4-6 on the season.
Collins-Maxwell handed Western Dubuque a 2-1 defeat. The Spartans received two goals from Carter Fricke and Ben Hofer had one assist.
Western Dubuque’s Keaton Bockenstedt scored 12 minutes into the game and Fricke answered four minutes later. Fricke scored the winning goal off a ball from Hofer 19 minutes into the second half.
Brendyn Padget made seven saves at keeper for the Spartans in the win.
Waverly-Shell Rock blanked Collins-Maxwell by a 6-0 score. The Spartans fired off seven shots, but couldn’t put any in the net.
Fricke tallied three shots, Josh Bruntz two and Will Hitchler and Ryan Sabastiano one apiece for Collins-Maxwell in the loss. Padget made seven saves at keeper.
Soren Beckstrom and Dylan Eggleson each netted two goals for Waverly-Shell Rock.
Collins-Maxwell suffered a 4-2 loss at the hands of Center Point-Urbana. Fricke and Drake Ross each scored one goal for the Spartans.
Ross converted a penalty kick for the first score of the game. Center Point-Urbana went up 2-1 by halftime and Fricke evened the score seven minutes into the second half.
Center Point-Urbana came up with two goals midway through the second half and Collins-Maxwell was unable to answer. Padget made seven more saves in a losing effort.
