NEVADA - The North Polk girls’ track team ended the regular season in style by dominating the Nevada Invitational Monday at Cub Stadium.


North Polk scored 145 points to beat Ankeny Centennial by 36 points for first out of nine teams. The Comets won seven events and added two silver and three bronze medals.


Maria Gorham won the high jump and the 400-meter dash. She also helped the Comets take gold in the distance medley relay.


Gorham jumped five feet, two inches in the high jump to beat Gilbert’s Haleigh Hadley by two inches for first. Gorham clocked in at one minute, 1.94 seconds in the 400 to blow away the rest of the field as South Hamilton’s Abby Ervin took second in 1:06.63.


North Polk also dominated the distance medley. Eva Schoenberg, Gorham and Kennedy Wendel ran the first three legs and Amelia Lesher finished things off as the Comets ran a 4:23.92 to beat Ankeny Centennial by 17.18 seconds for the gold.


Lesher also won the 1,500 in an impressive time of 4:54.15. Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center’s Kate Crawford was second in 5:05.70.


Reagan Demmon gave North Polk a win in the 400 hurdles with a 1:10.76 showing. Demmon just edged past Bondurant-Farrar’s Riley Gilroy (1:10.85) for first.


Schoenberg, Liz Turk, Wendel and Sierra Lambert won the 4 X 200 relay in 1:51.96. Bondurant-Farrar took runner-up in 1:52.48.


The Comet 4 X 400 team of Schoenberg, Turk, Wendel and Sophie Blanchard also won gold in 4:23.42. Gilbert placed second in 4:28.19.


Rebecca Ley and Mia Schumann teamed with Turk and Lambert to finish second in the sprint medley for North Polk with a time of 1:57.21. Gilbert won in 1:56.15. Blanchard ran a 2:29.08 in the 800 to take second behind the 2:27.92 time of Ankeny Centennial’s Sophia Lee.


Grace Croat was third behind Gorham and Ervin in the open 400 with a time of 1:07.07. Cassandra Cory and Bailey Drent joined up with Schumann and Demmon to place third in the shuttle hurdle with a 1:13.65 performance.


South Hamilton won the shuttle hurdle in 1:11.51 and Gilbert just edged North Polk for second with a time of 1:13.61.


Ley, Lambert, Jenna Fagen and Kara Gorham won bronze in the 4 X 100 after running a :54.14. Nevada won in :52.86 and Bondurant-Farrar clocked in at :53.55 to take second.
