TAMA - The Collins-Maxwell track teams both turned in a top-five performance at the Iowa Star Conference coed meet Monday at Meskwaki High School.


The Spartan boys came in fourth and the girls took fifth out of 14 teams. The two teams finished with nearly identical point totals as the boys scored 71 points and the girls 70.


In the boys’ competition, Carter Fricke claimed gold in the 200 and Brett Livesay won the 110-meter high hurdles. Fricke also took second in the 100 and third in the 400 and Livesay placed fifth in the boys’ high jump.


Fricke ran a time of 23.50 seconds in the 200 to just hold off the :23.56 run by Dunkerton’s Holden Gillespie for the gold. Fricke completed the 100 in :11.75 to come in behind the :11.56 run by Dunkerton’s Travis Schake.


In the open 400, Fricke produced a time of :52.56. Gillespie won in :51.01 and Tripoli’s Alex Nation took second in :51.48.


Livesay completed the 110 highs in :16.68 to just edge past Janesville’s Codey Hicks, who finished in :16.70. In the high jump, Livesay cleared 5-8.


Dalton Ross finished third in the 100 and fourth in the 200 for Collins-Maxwell. Ross completed the 100 in :12.06 and the 200 in :23.86.


Ross, Caleb Fullerton, Kadin Bennett and A.J. Smith took fourth in the 4 X 200 with a time of 1:39.73. Fullerton, Smith, Mitchell Bienfang and Noah Rhoades placed fourth in the distance medley after completing the relay in 4:05.53.


In the sprint medley Ross, Fullerton, Smith and Fricke ran a 1:41.25 to take fifth. Livesay, Rhoades, Frank Sposeto IV and Bienfang added a fifth-place time of 3:52.36 in the 4 X 400.


Dunkerton dominated the boys’ team competition with 156 points. Baxter came in second with 83 points and Don Bosco just edged Collins-Maxwell for third with a score of 72.


In the girls’ competition, Clarksville won with 129.5 points and Baxter was second with a score of 118.5. Janesville tallied 98 points to place third and Tripoli took fourth with a score of 73.


Gracie Cheville, Shatsa Moody, Josie Wierson and Brianda Bane won the girls’ shuttle hurdle relay for Collins-Maxwell with a time of 1:12.96. Clarksville took second with a time of 1:14.23.


Whitney Spencer teamed with Moody, Cheville and Bane to place second in the 4 X 100 with a :53.97 showing. Clarksville won in :52.79.


Bane won an individual bronze in both the 100 and 400 hurdles events with respective times of :17.56 and 1:12.27.


Baxter’s Sailor Hinegardner and Tripoli’s Olivia Miller were first and second in the 100 hurdles with respective times of :16.41 and :16.51. Janesville’s Grace Hovenga and Clarksville’s Capri Rabatach won gold and silver respectively in the 400 hurdles with times of 1:10.16 and 1:12.01.


Wierson wound up fourth in the open 400 with a time of 1:08.08 and she joined Spencer, Moody and Trinity Stover in taking fourth in the sprint medley with a time of 2:01.67.


Spencer, Moody and Stover joined up with Reagan Franzen to place fifth in the 4 X 200 with a 1:59.91 showing and Emma Kahler teamed with Stover, Franzen and Wierson in running a fifth-place time of 4:36.39 in the 4 X 400. Houge, Spencer, Elisabeth Sievert and Olivia Pasquariello ran a fifth-place time of 11:51.33 in the 4 X 800 for the Spartans.


Kahler also came in fifth in the 200 with a time of :30.19. Cheville was fifth in the long jump with a jump of 14-4.
