ALLEMAN - North Polk is serving notice it is a force to be reckoned with in boys’ soccer after trouncing Boone, 11-1, to remain undefeated Monday at Comet Stadium in Alleman.


North Polk fell behind 1-0 four minutes into the game on a goal by Boone’s Max Hyatt. But all that seemed to do was light a fire under the Comets, as they responded with four goals over the next six minutes to take charge.


The Comets never looked back, building a 10-1 lead by halftime on their way to a 5-0 record on the season.


“We just really wanted to come out strong,” North Polk’s Dawson Murray said, “show them we really have what it takes to be the best.”


The Comets spread the ball around during the spurt as Broc Hawkins, Keegan Dorr, Luis Sarceda-Martinez and Luke McCoy each scored a goal.


“We’ve been getting along as a team really well,” Hawkins said. “Talking, communicating — stuff like that. We really enjoy being together.”


Hawkins put up two quick goals 11 minutes later and added his fourth goal of the game during the 32-minute, 16-second mark. Murray followed Hawkins’ last goal with two scores within 33 seconds of each other and Jacob Elliott found the back of the net with 14 seconds left in the half.


Murray scored the final goal off a ball from Hawkins just under three minutes into the second half.


Hawkins finished with four goals and two assists. Sarceda-Martinez did a great job setting up Hawkins and the rest of the team, finishing with three assists to go along with his goal.


“You need to pass the ball when you need to pass the ball,” Sarceda-Martinez said. “I think what actually makes a good team is knowing when to play the opponent the best way to be helpful to the team.”


Murray showed the great depth North Polk has by joining Hawkins in earning a hat-trick. He ended up with three goals and one assist.


Dorr, McCoy and Elliott finished with one goal apiece as North Polk had six players find the net on the evening. Luke Hammond and Colin Swygman each ended up with one assist.

OSKALOOSA - North Polk rolled to its fourth-straight win to start the season Friday with a 3-1 road triumph at Oskaloosa.


The Comet boys improved to 4-0 after getting off 23 shots to 12 for Oskaloosa.


Broc Hawkins, Colyn Swygman and Jonas Suessenguth each scored one goal for North Polk in the win. Comet keeper Christopher Martinez made three saves.


Noah Baarda scored Oskaloosa’s only goal off an assist from Jacob Kime.


ALLEMAN - North Polk had no troubles with Webster City, whipping the Lynx by a 7-0 score April 26 at Alleman.


North Polk converted nearly half of its 17 shots, going to 3-0 on the season. Broc Hawkins had four goals and one assist, Keegan Dorr two goals and one assist, Jonas Suessenguth one goal and assist apiece and Luis Sarceda-Martinez two assists to lead the Comets to victory.


Parker Frey, Suessenguth and Colin Swygman each added one assist. Christopher Martinez had five saves at keeper for the Comets.
