ALLEMAN - North Polk produced the top two doubles teams and the singles champion, winning the North Polk Invitational boys’ tennis tournament Saturday at the North Polk Tennis Courts in Alleman.


Colby Cupp and Jack Veber won the doubles tournament and Ethan Knight and Alexander Pancheuko came in second for North Polk. The Comets’ Evan Moon was the singles champion and Brennan Gering took fourth.


As a team, North Polk scored 24 points to beat Southeast Polk by 9.5 points for first out of four teams.


Cupp and Veber defeated a team from Independence by a 10-2 score and a team from Southeast Polk by a 10-4 margin to reach the finals. Knight and Pancheuko advanced to the championship with a 10-2 win over a Des Moines North squad and a 10-3 victory over a team from Independence.


In the championship match, Cupp and Veber scored a 10-4 win over Knight and Pancheuko.


Moon went 3-0 in singles play, with two shutouts, to take first.


Moon whipped North’s Hay Ar Blu and Southeast Polk’s Blake Beaune to reach the finals. In the singles championship, Moon earned a 10-1 win over Southeast Polk’s Mitch Rice.


Gering topped North’s Milos Gorton by a 10-5 in the first round of singles play. He lost to Rice by a 10-1 score, then finished with a 9-8 loss to Beaune after dropping the tiebreaker by a 9-7 score.


Final team scores: 1. North Polk 24 points, 2. Southeast Polk 14.5, 3. Independence 7.5, 4. Des Moines North 2.5.
