ALLEMAN - The North Polk girls’ soccer team came back from an 11-day layoff to take down Newton, 2-1, Monday at Alleman.


The Comet girls fired off seven shots and keeper Sawyer Elwell made three saves. The victory put North Polk, ranked No. 9 in Class 1A, at 3-1 and dropped Newton, the No. 13 team in 2A, to 2-4.


Danielle Bonewitz scored an unassisted goal six minutes into the game to get North Polk on the board. Katryn Halterman netted the eventual winning goal for the Comets off an assist from Katie Berglund nine minutes into the second half.
