ALLEMAN - The North Polk girls’ soccer team dominated a larger Indianola team, 5-0, April 5 at Alleman.


The Comets, ranked No. 4 in Class 1A to start the season, got off 10 shots on goal and keepers Sawyer Elwell and Sydney Anderson only needed to combine for three saves. The victory put North Polk at 2-0 on the season.


Katie Berglund and Danielle Bonewitz each scored two goals and Katryn Halterman added one goal and two assists for the Comets on offense. Freshman Abi Zimmer chipped in two assists.


GRIMES - North Polk began the 2018 season right where it left off in 2017, earning a 2-1 road win over Dallas Center-Grimes April 2 at Grimes.


North Polk reached the Class 1A state semifinals for the first time last season. The Comets entered 2018 ranked No. 4 in 1A and showed they deserve it by taking down a DCG team rated No. 14 in 2A.


The Comet defense was outstanding as keeper Sawyer Elwell only had to make one save. Katie Berglund and Danielle Bonewitz each scored an unassisted goal on offense for North Polk.


The Comets finished the game with three shots on goal.
