SULLY - The Collins-Maxwell girls’ basketball team pushed a strong Lynnville-Sully team hard for over two quarters in the Class 1A regional quarterfinals Feb. 13 at Sully, but the Spartans sputtered down the stretch in a 58-34 loss.


Collins-Maxwell trailed 27-21 at the half. The Spartans had a strong start to the third quarter, getting within 29-27.


But from then on it was all Lynnville-Sully. The Hawks went up 37-29 after the third quarter, then blew the game open in the fourth.


Collins-Maxwell shot 30 percent and only made 1 of 13 3-pointers and 7 of 18 free throws. The Spartans did manage to outrebound the Hawks, 30-28.


Lynnville-Sully shot 51 percent. The Hawks also made 10 of 15 free throws and had 10 steals.


With the loss, Collins-Maxwell completed its first season with an excellent 18-5 record. Brianda Bane finished her outstanding career with a tremendous 15-point, nine-rebound, six-block performance for the Spartans.


Gracie Cheville had eight points, one assist and one steal and Mikayla Markley four points, two rebounds and one assist for Collins-Maxwell. Kayla McCormick tacked on three points and five rebounds, Mikayla Houge two points and four boards, Emma Kahler one point and three assists and Ella Kahler one point and one rebound.


Lynnville-Sully improved to 17-6. Carson Fisk had 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals and Mariah Vos 12 points and four rebounds for the Hawks.
