KNOXVILLE - The North Polk wrestling team didn’t have the best luck at the Class 2A district meet in Knoxville Saturday.

The Comets had three wrestlers competing in an attempt to qualify for state, but they came up empty in all six matches. Logan Engebretson, Cody Meiners and Sully Hartsook placed fourth at 145, 152 and 160 pounds respectively.

Engebretson lost to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Freemont’s Sage Walker — ranked fifth at 145 — by major decision, 17-6, and then by technical fall (15-0) to South Tama’s Colton Vest — ranked seventh — in the third-place match to finish the season at 32-13. Meiners finished 20-16 after suffering a loss by fall to top-ranked Isaac Judge of South Tama and a 14-0 major decision setback against Knoxville’s Joe Hollinrake.

Hartsook was pinned by Williamsburg’s Calvin Roy and Knoxville’s Cody Ray Smith. Hartsook still finished the season with an outstanding 37-8 record.
