ALLEMAN - North Polk survived a tough challenge from Creston in the Class 3A regional quarterfinals Saturday in Alleman as the Comets used a strong stretch over the middle two quarters to grind out a 55-48 victory.


North Polk, ranked eighth in Class 3A, outscored Creston 35-24 in the second and third quarters. The Comets led 25-24 at the half, then put up 21 points in the third to build a nine-point lead.


Creston put up a tough fight in the fourth quarter, but North Polk played good enough defense to keep the Panthers at bay. The victory put the Comets at 19-3 on the season and Creston finished 7-13.


North Polk had 12 offensive rebounds and steals apiece on the night. The Comets shot 37 percent from the field and made 14 of 23 free throws.


Jaedon Murphy had a big night individually for North Polk. Murphy went for 19 points, 14 rebounds, four assists and two blocks and steals apiece.


Maggie Phipps and Katie Brown also scored in double figures for the Comets. Phipps finished with 15 points, four assists and three steals and Brown 12 points and two steals.


Katie Scott added five points and one assist and steal apiece. Rebecca Ley tacked on four points, four rebounds and three steals.
