HUXLEY - A big edge in shooting accuracy helped Ballard hold off Perry, 45-42, Friday at Huxley.


The Bombers shot 51 percent and held Perry to 27-percent shooting, avenging a 15-point loss to the Bluejays earlier in the season. The win snapped a three-game losing streak and put the Bombers at 7-11 overall and 5-7 in the Raccoon River Conference.


The third quarter was the difference for Ballard. The Bombers trailed 26-22 at the half, but outscored Perry by seven in the third and maintained that edge the rest of the way.


Connor Drew had 12 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals for Ballard in the win. Trey Drummond added eight points and two assists; Chase Winterboer seven points, three assists and two steals and Reece Huen and Nate Briggs five points and four rebounds apiece.


Perry dropped to 5-14 overall and 3-9 in the conference. Connor Nielsen had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Drew Levan 13 points and eight boards and Rashon Ivory nine points, five rebounds and two assists for the Bluejays.

CARLISLE - One good quarter wasn’t enough for Ballard in a 74-61 loss at Carlisle Jan. 30.


The Bombers were outclassed in the first half, falling behind 44-24. The Bombers played great in the third quarter to pull within 50-42, but Carlisle picked up the pace offensively in the fourth to pull away.


The loss put Ballard at 6-11 overall and 4-7 in the Raccoon River Conference. The Bombers gave Carlisle 26 free-throw attempts and only shot nine foul shots of their own, and they were outrebounded, 34-27.


Carlisle shot 49 percent from the field and Ballard 44 percent. The Wildcats made five 3-pointers and the Bombers’ four.


Trey Drummond had 15 points, four rebounds and two steals and Chase Winterboer 10 points, four assists and three steals for Ballard in defeat. Connor Drew put up eight points and seven rebounds and Isaac Schafbuch eight points, three assists and one block.


Max Olsan added seven points and one steal, Nate Briggs six points and two assists and Reece Huen three points and four rebounds for the Bombers. Kegan Odden and Isaiah Deason chipped in two points apiece.


Carlisle improved to 10-5 overall and 9-2 in the conference. Collin Lister paced the Wildcats with 26 points and three assists, Cole Henderson had 17 points and nine rebounds and Tommy Donovan 13 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals.
