JEWELL - The North Polk boys’ basketball team had a rough start on offense and a tough close defensively in a 71-37 loss to South Hamilton Friday at Jewell.


North Polk only scored 13 points in the first half, falling behind by 18. The Comets played better offensively down the stretch, but they couldn’t stop South Hamilton as the Hawks netted 40 points over the final two quarters to pull away.


North Polk did a solid job rebounding the ball, finishing with 31 boards to 34 for South Hamilton. But the Comets struggled from the foul line, going just 5 of 15, and they only made 2 of 13 3-pointers and shot 34 percent overall from the field, falling to 0-6 overall and 0-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


Cameron Markert had 10 points, six rebounds and one assist and Colten Parkins nine points, four rebounds and one assist for North Polk. Cole Bouchard hit two 3-pointers and scored eight points and Caleb Lomica recorded seven points, six rebounds and four blocks.


Logan Peters paced South Hamilton (5-0, 3-0) with 20 points and three assists. Cole Berg added 12 points, five rebounds and five assists and Conner Hill 11 points and five assists for the Hawks.

ADEL - North Polk couldn’t recover from a blitzkrieg by Adel-Desoto-Minburn in the first half Dec. 7 in a 75-49 loss to the Tigers at Adel.


The Comets gave up 50 points in the first half. ADM went up by 10 after one quarter, and increased its lead to an insurmountable 24 points by halftime.


North Polk only made 4 of 18 3-pointers and 7 of 15 free throws in the non-conference loss. The Comets finished with 28 rebounds and they shot 38 percent overall from the field.


Caleb Lomica put up 17 points, three rebounds and one block and Colten Parkins had 14 points and four assists for North Polk individually. Cameron Markert added four points, rebounds and assists apiece; Austin McArthur tallied five points and two assists and Cole Bouchard chipped in four points.

GILBERT - North Polk was hurt by a poor start to each half in a 77-47 loss at Gilbert Dec. 5.


The Comets were outscored 21-8 in the first quarter. They closed within 31-24 at the half, only to see Gilbert explode for a 27-9 run over the third quarter to take complete command.


North Polk was outrebounded 37-23, and Gilbert made eight 3-pointers and had 14 steals. The Comets shot 36 percent from the field and made 15 of 26 free throws.


Colten Parkins accounted for 16 points and five rebounds in a losing effort for North Polk. Cole Bouchard hit three 3-pointers and scored 10 points and Cameron Markert ended up with seven points, four assists and two rebounds.


Matt Ockey drained five 3-pointers and led Gilbert with a game-high 18 points. Garrison Holck and Will Turner each scored 13 points and Tommy Doyle had 12 points, six rebounds and three steals for the Tigers.
