Ballard senior outside hitter Olivia Vier was named all-state honorable mention in Class 4A for volleyball by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association in 2017.
Vier turned in a fantastic all-around season, helping Ballard produce its second winning campaign in a row with a 19-12 record.
In 2017, Vier recorded 385 kills at 4.53 per set with a .168 kill-efficiency rate. Vier ranked third in 4A for kills per set and eighth in total kills.
Vier also tallied 390 digs at 4.59 per set and 50 blocks. She went 219 of 244 serving with 15 aces.
The IGCA 4A first team was made up of: Cedar Rapids Xavier’s Charlotte Richards, Pella’s Emily Holterhaus, Lewis Central’s Katherine Poore, Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Kaylee Christensen, Dubuque Wahlert’s Aliyah Carter, Independence’s Madison Larson, Center Point-Urbana’s Abigail Weideman and Marion’s Caitlyn Smith.
Landing on the IGCA second team in 4A were: Wahlert’s Jenna Gremmel and Krystal Tranel, Waverly-Shell Rock’s Jayme Willemssen and Claire Marsh, Bishop Heelan Catholic’s Samantha McCabe, Sergeant Bluff-Luton’s Madison Harms, Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s Sami Schepers and Fort Madison’s Amber Dilsaver.
Richards was named 4A Player of the Year by the IGCA. She recorded 424 kills with a .300 kill-efficiency rate, 302 digs, 58 aces, 35 blocks and 18 assists to help the Saints reach the state semifinals.
Wahlert’s Lindsey Beaves was named IGCA Coach of the Year in 4A after leading the Golden Eagles to the state title.
