Five members of the North Polk volleyball team were rewarded for their outstanding play in 2017 by being named all-Heart of Iowa Conference by the conference coaches.


Junior libero Nora Aschoff, junior outside hitter Carolyn Steffen, senior setter Grace Nelson, junior setter Danielle Bonewitz and junior defensive specialist Katie Scott were recognized by the conference coaches. They helped North Polk finish fourth in the conference with a 4-3 record.


Aschoff was named to the all-HOIC first team. The other first-team selections were: Gilbert’s Inga Rotto, Bree Richard and Megan Goodhue; Nevada’s Kacie Rewerts and Hattie Rhodes; Roland-Story’s MaKayla Geise; South Hamilton’s Anna Moss and Greene County’s Megan Durbin.


Aschoff recorded 116 digs during conference play. She also had 14 assists, seven aces and one kill.


Steffen and Nelson both ended up on the all-HOIC second team. Joining them on the second team were: Gilbert’s Jamie Brenner and Thea Rotto; Roland-Story’s Hailey Louw and Jenna Clark; Nevada’s Amanda Fortmann; South Hamilton’s Taylor Volkmann and Prairie City-Monroe’s Maddie Samson.


During HOIC play, Steffen produced 88 digs, 84 kills and eight aces. Nelson handed out 98 assists and also had 32 digs, 14 aces and four kills.


Bonewitz and Scott were named all-HOIC honorable mention.


Bonewitz recorded 96 digs, 51 digs, seven kills and three aces in conference play. Scott came up with 69 digs and six aces.
