The Ballard football team had a total of 11 players receive all-district honors after finishing third in Class 3A District 2 this season.


The Bombers had seven players make the all-district team and four more named honorable mention. Ballard went 5-2 in the district to come in behind Dallas Center-Grimes (7-0) and Webster City (6-1), and the Bombers just missed making the playoffs by one point.


Quarterback Isaac Schafbuch, receiver Reece Huen, tailback Skyler Noftsger and offensive lineman Cody Knutson gave Ballard four all-district picks on offense.


Schafbuch totaled 1,661 yards passing and rushing on the season. He completed 68 of 119 passes for 1,010 yards and nine touchdowns and ran for 651 yards and 12 scores on an impressive average of 7.8 yards per carry.


Huen caught 22 passes for 358 yards and two touchdowns. He was also a big threat on the ground, carrying the ball 58 times for 462 yards and five touchdowns.


Noftsger was Ballard’s leading rusher. He ran for 852 yards and 10 touchdowns on 138 carries and caught eight passes for 78 yards.


Knutson was a pivotal part of a Ballard offensive line that paved the way for an offense that averaged 37.8 points and 414.8 yards per game.


Defensive linemen Ben Lee and Josh DeTar and defensive back Gannon Manfull made all-district on defense for Ballard.


Lee made 81.5 tackles, recovered two fumbles, returned an interception for a touchdown and blocked a punt. DeTar totaled 65.5 tackles, including 60 solo stops, and Manfull delivered 31.5 tackles and one interception.


Ballard seniors Colin Anderson and Ben Hokel, and juniors Blake Henga and Kegan Odden were named all-district honorable mention.


Anderson played a big part in Ballard’s success on the offensive line and Hokel racked up 51 tackles and one fumble recovery during the season. Henga returned two interceptions for touchdowns and also ran for 156 yards and two scores, and Odden caught 19 passes for 339 yards and five touchdowns.


Dallas Center-Grimes head coach Scott Heitland was named the 3A District 2 Coach of the Year after leading the Mustangs to the district title with a perfect 7-0 record. DCG’s Trent Carpenter was named the district Defensive MVP after totaling 79 tackles, two sacks and two interceptions.


Boone quarterback Mason Hulse was named the Offensive MVP of 3A District 2. Hulse completed 120 of 219 passes for 1,916 yards and 23 touchdowns, and he also ran for 645 yards and eight scores.
