CONRAD - The Collins-Maxwell volleyball team ended up 1-3 with a victory over East Marshall at the Comet Invitational in Conrad Saturday.


The Spartans swept East Marshall by scores of 21-5 and 21-11. They also fell to Baxter, West Marshall and New Hampton as their season record went to 16-7 at the conclusion of the tournament.


In the win over East Marshall, Brianda Bane produced four kills, four blocks, three aces and two digs for the Spartans. Katie Camp added 10 assists and six digs, Josie Wierson five kills and three digs, Gracie Cheville eight digs and two kills and Elise Robertson two kills, assists and digs apiece.


Hannah Caple added nine digs and Jillian Holst three digs and one kill against the Mustangs.


Collins-Maxwell fell to Baxter in three sets. The match was an even battle all the way through, with the Spartans claiming a 26-24 win the opening set, Baxter took the second, 27-25, and then the rally game by a 15-12 margin.


Bane hammered down 16 kills and added four blocks and digs apiece and Cheville tallied 11 digs, seven kills and three aces against the Bolts. Camp finished with 19 assists and seven digs, Caple 16 digs and Wierson nine digs, one kill and one block.


Holst chipped in six digs and one kill and Robertson three digs and one block.


West Marshall swept Collins-Maxwell by scores of 21-11 and 21-15. Bane recorded four kills, two blocks and one dig; Camp five assists, two digs and one ace and Caple seven digs versus the Trojans.


Cheville wound up with three digs, one kill and one ace; Wierson three aces, two digs and one kill; Robertson two digs and one assist and Holst one kill and one dig. Brooke Christy tacked on one dig against West Marshall.


New Hampton handed Collins-Maxwell 21-10 and 21-14 setbacks. Wierson put up two kills and digs apiece, Bane five blocks and one kill, Robertson four assists and one dig and Cheville four digs and one block.


Caple chipped in two digs, Holst one kill and Trinity Stover one dig in the loss to New Hampton.


MAXWELL - Iowa Star Conference play ended with a tough four-set loss for Collins-Maxwell versus Baxter Oct. 3 at the Collins-Maxwell High School gym.


The first three sets were competitive affairs. Baxter won the first set, 25-21, Collins-Maxwell took the second by a 25-20 margin, then the Bolts came back with a 25-22 victory in the third.


Baxter carried the momentum of its third-set win over into the fourth. Collins-Maxwell struggled in the set, falling 25-15 to drop to 15-4 on the season and finish 6-2 in the Iowa Star Conference South Division.


Collins-Maxwell produced 33 kills and 24 errors in 126 attacks. The Spartans had 70 digs and 12 blocks on defense.


Serving was inconsistent for Collins-Maxwell. The Spartans totaled seven aces, but only went 81 of 94 overall.


Serve receive was a tough spot for Collins-Maxwell as Baxter compiled 14 aces. The Bolts also had 45 kills and only 16 attack errors.


Brianda Bane had 15 kills, six digs, five blocks and two aces in a losing effort for Collins-Maxwell. Katie Camp finished with 28 assists, 12 digs and one ace; Gracie Cheville 14 digs, eight kills and one block; Jillian Holst eight digs, five kills and one ace and Josie Wierson seven digs, six blocks, five kills and one ace.


Hannah Caple added 12 digs and two aces, Elise Robertson 10 digs and one assist and Brooke Christie one dig for the Spartans.
