STATE CENTER - The Collins-Maxwell girls took third and the Spartan boys placed one runner in the top 10 at the West Marshall Invitational Sept. 19 at State Center.


The Spartan girls put four runners in the top 20. They ended up with 78 points to beat out South Hamilton by seven points for third out of five teams behind West Marshall (36) and Baxter (49).


Mikayla Houge led the Collins-Maxwell girls with a ninth-place 5-kilometer time of 23 minutes, 30.08 seconds. Olivia Pasquariello ended up 13th in 24:21.06, Whitney Spencer took 17th in 25:03.38 and Shasta Moody ended up 18th with a 25:21.88 showing.


Morgan Day was the final scored Spartan with a 21st-place time of 26:14.87. Tori Bienfang took 25th in 26:45.36 and Abby Husak 28th with a 27:19.81 showing to complete the Spartans’ varsity competition.


West Marshall’s Avril Sinning won the girls’ race in 21:16.76. Baxter’s Brenna Thomson came in second at 21:31.11.


In the boys’ competition, Collins-Maxwell scored 99 points to finish fifth in a tight boys’ race between the second and sixth-place teams. South Hamilton easily won with 32 points, West Marshall took second with 94, BCLUW came in third with 96, Baxter fourth with 98 and Ankeny Christian Academy sixth with 109.


Carter Fricke produced a top-10 individual time for the Spartan boys. Fricke completed the 5-kilometer course in 19:06.19.


Max Van Maanen came in 16th in 20:05.06 and Noah Rhoades took 21st in 20:31.61. Jacob Pierick finished 22nd in 20:44.39 and Carter Davis 35th in 22:35.04 to complete the scoring for the Collins-Maxwell boys.


Carter Merryman and Addison Swaab also ran varsity for the Spartans. Merryman took 42nd in 23:46.43 and Swaab 44th in 23:53.32.


South Hamilton’s Josiah Brown was the boys’ individual winner in 17:33.36. BCLUW’s Caleb Silver was the runner-up after completing the course in 17:38.71.
