STORY CITY - The North Polk volleyball team suffered its second Heart of Iowa Conference loss of the season Sept. 19 when the Comets fell to Roland-Story in four sets at Story City.


North Polk couldn’t overcome a two-set hole, falling to 0-2 in the HOIC and 15-11 overall. The Comets suffered tight 25-21 and 25-23 setbacks in the first two sets, came back with a 25-20 win the third, then dropped the fourth by a 25-18 score.


North Polk only had a kill-efficiency rate of .072 with 35 kills and 24 errors in 152 attacks. The Comets went 80 of 89 serving with four aces and finished with 71 digs.


Carolyn Steffen had a strong match with 17 kills and four errors in a losing effort for North Polk. She also put up 21 digs, three blocks, two aces and one assist.


Rebecca Ley added six kills; Hailey Becker five kills, one block and one dig and Emily Larson four kills, two digs, one block, one assist and one ace. Jaedon Murphy chipped in four blocks and one kill and Leah Cam three blocks and one kill.


Nora Aschoff came up with 19 digs and Katie Scott 10 digs. Grace Nelson added 14 assists, 11 digs and one kill and Danielle Bonewitz 18 assists, three digs and one ace.
