For the second straight week, Boone’s defense was undaunted and the offense started to untangle just before halftime.
The result: Toreadors 41, Perry 7.
“It feels really good,” junior running back Norbert Riyazimana said of being 4-0 on the season.
Defensive back Quali Sporaa intercepted two passes, returning the second 35 yards for a touchdown. Junior linebacker Jacob Lewis recovered a fumble in the opening moments of the third quarter that helped Boone build a 27-7 lead.
“I saw (the quarterback) rolling out,” Lewis said. “He tried to cut back and just dropped it. I would have tried to scoop and score, but a guy was on me.”
Senior quarterback Mason Hulse threw for 189 yards and ran for 140 more, accounting for three touchdowns. Riyazimana rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown.
“The beginning of this year, being a starting running back, I was kind of scared,” Riyazimana said. “I’m not a rookie anymore. My confidence is getting higher.”
Perry’s only touchdown came on a kickoff return in the first quarter. The Toreadors’ defense has gone eight quarters without being scored on.
Perry finished with 22 rushing yards on 26 attempts and managed just five first downs.
“It can become better,” Sporaa said of the defense. “We’ve just got to communicate more, be team more.
“We can be better than this.”
