ALLEMAN - North Polk won a showdown with rival Ballard to take first in a triangular volleyball meet with the two schools and Webster City Aug. 29 at Alleman.
North Polk defeated Ballard in three sets. Both teams swept Webster City.
The Comets won the first set against Ballard by a 25-20 score. Ballard took the second, 25-22, to set up a rally game.
In the rally game, North Polk prevailed by a 15-10 margin. The Comets had 39 kills and 12 errors in 105 attacks for a .257 kill-efficiency rate and the Bombers 30 kills and 14 errors in 109 attacks for an efficiency rate of .147.
North Polk put up 69 digs, five blocks and four aces in the match. Ballard tallied 65 digs, six blocks and two aces.
Carolyn Steffen turned in a monster performance for North Polk against the Bombers. She slammed home 22 kills and also had five digs and one block.
Becca Ley put up six kills, six digs and one block and Hailey Becker delivered four kills, two digs and one assist for the Comets. Bella Rademacher ended up with three kills, two digs and one block; Emily Larson totaled three kills and Jaedon Murphy chipped in one kill, three digs, one block and one assist.
Danielle Bonewitz had 19 assists and seven digs and Grace Nelson 16 assists, three digs and one ace for North Polk. Nora Aschoff led the Comets with 23 digs in the back row and Katie Scott chipped in 17.
Olivia Vier put up 16 digs, 12 kills and one block and Ana Vier added 10 kills, two blocks and two digs for Ballard. Carley Wilson finished with five kills and three digs and Cassie Smith had three kills and two blocks.
In the back row, Mykelann Gray finished with 26 digs and setter Cassidy Shepley handed out 29 assists and added three digs. Hannah Elliott produced six digs and one block, Karlee Ahrenholtz five digs and Sarah Stolte four digs.
North Polk defeated Webster City by scores of 25-10 and 25-14. The two victories gave the Comets a 6-2 overall record.
Steffen had 10 kills, five digs, one block and one ace and Murphy and Rademacher put up five kills apiece against Webster City. Rademacher also ended up with four digs and one assist.
Ley had three kills and three digs and Leah Cam produced three kills and two blocks versus Webster City. Nelson delivered 15 assists, four digs and four aces and Bonewitz 10 assists, three digs and one ace.
Larson produced three digs and two kills, blocks and aces apiece and Becker three kills and one dig versus Webster City. Aschoff recorded 19 digs and Scott nine.
Ballard scored its first victory of the season with 25-21 and 25-19 victories over Webster City. The Bombers concluded the triangular with a 1-3 overall record.
Olivia Vier put up nine kills, eight digs and one ace and Ana added seven kills and three blocks versus the Lynx. Wilson tacked on six kills, three blocks and two digs; Elliott one kill, dig, block and ace apiece and Smith one block.
Shepley dished out 16 assists and chipped in three digs, one block and one ace in the win over Webster City. Gray put up 14 digs and one assist and Ahrenholtz and Stolte had two digs apiece.
