COLFAX - The No. 3 (Class 2A) Collins-Maxwell-Baxter softball team closed out the regular season with a 3-0 non-conference victory over another ranked foe in No. 11 (1A) Colfax-Mingo June 27 at Colfax.
Mikayla Houge gave up two hits and struck out two batters with a pair of walks in five innings to get the victory. Abbey Kahler picked up the save to finish off the shutout as she didn’t allow a hit and struck out two with one walk.
CMB did all of its scoring early, improving to 25-5 on the season. The Raiders put one run on the board in each of the first three innings.
Abby Husak was 1-for-3 with an RBI, Hannah Caple 1-for-4 with an RBI and Holly Jessen 1-for-4 with a run for CMB at the plate. Houge doubled twice and drew one walk, Heather Jessen went 2-for-3 with a steal, Trinity Stover scored two runs, Kahler walked twice and Mikayla Eslinger drew one free pass.
Colfax-Mingo fell to 22-9 with the loss. Colbee Cunningham gave up three runs — two earned — with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings as the losing Tigerhawk pitcher.
Cunningham and Amy Russell each singled once for the only Colfax-Mingo hits. Mackensie Brown drew two walks and Delaney Underwood picked up one free pass for the Tigerhawks.
