ATLANTIC - The Ballard baseball team used two strong rallies to down Atlantic, 7-5, in a nine-inning war Saturday in Atlantic.


The Bombers came back from a 3-0 deficit to take a 5-3 lead going into the bottom of the seventh. The Bombers scored twice in the fourth and put up three in the top of the seventh.


Atlantic came back with two runs in the bottom of the seventh to force extra innings. Neither team could push a run across in the eighth and then Ballard came up big in the top of the ninth with two runs.


Relief pitcher Gannon Manfull kept the Trojans off the board in the bottom of the inning to finish off the victory. The win was the Bombers’ sixth in nine games and they improved to 8-10 on the season.


Manfull earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings and giving up just one hit with three strikeouts. Jack Luster had a strong outing as the Bomber starter, lasting seven innings and surrendering two earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and two walks.


Luster and Austin Edwards came up with the big hits for Ballard offensively.


Luster was 3-for-5 with a double, run and two RBI. Edwards went 4-for-5 with a double and he also scored once and drove in two runs.


Codey Erickson singled, scored and drove in a run, Reece Huen was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Kade Reinertson doubled twice. Manfull, Sam Andrews and Hersch Maxey each scored one run.


Chase Mcclaren was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI and Jackson Eden 2-for-4 with two RBI for Atlantic. Noah Bruckner was the losing Trojan pitcher after giving up two runs on four hits with one strikeout in 1 ⅔ innings of relief.

SLATER - Ballard couldn’t take advantage of a tremendous pitching performance by Colin Anderson in a 2-1 loss to Boone Friday at Nite Hawk Field in Slater.


Anderson threw a four-hitter with four strikeouts and only one walk. He only gave up two runs in the top of the second inning.


But Ballard could only put up one run in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Bombers had five hits, including three doubles, but they struck out 10 times.


Errors also plagued Ballard. Both Boone runs were unearned as Ballard committed three errors and Boone was mistake-free.


Austin Edwards doubled three times and drove in Gannon Manfull with Ballard’s only run. Manfull finished with a single and Clay Estrem also singled once for the Bombers, who fell to 4-3 in the Raccoon River Conference.


Dresden Wilson went the distance to get the win for Boone. Nate McBride was 2-for-3 with a run and Brett Price also scored once.

CARROLL - Ballard used two big innings on offense and strong pitching to overwhelm Carroll by a 15-0 score in five innings June 14 at Carroll.


Ballard put up six runs in the second inning and topped that in the fourth with a seven-run outburst on its way to a Raccoon River Conference victory. The Bombers totaled 14 hits and they took advantage of four Tiger errors.


Jack Luster was 2-for-3 with a double, run and three RBI; Kade Reinertson had a 3-for-3 night and Austin Edwards ended up 2-for-3 with an RBI for Ballard. Reece Huen finished 1-for-2 with two runs and RBI apiece, Gannon Manfull also scored twice and drove in two runs and Hersch Maxey produced two runs and one RBI.


Codey Erickson scored three times, Sam Andrews and Nolan Payne were both 1-for-1 with an RBI and Tanner Brock went 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Clayton Poots went 1-for-3 with an RBI and Isaac Schafbuch was 1-for-3 with a run.


Edwards was the winning pitcher. He fired a one hitter with 11 strikeouts and only one walk.


Draven Williamson had Carroll’s only hit. Noah Schulte allowed 11 runs - four earned - with four walks and one strikeout in three innings as the losing Tiger pitcher.
