North Polk had two players named to the Class 1A all-tournament team at the girls’ state soccer tournament Saturday in Des Moines.

Senior forward Joy Smith and junior Emily Larson both landed on the all-tourney team after helping North Polk reach the 1A state semifinals in its first-ever state appearance.

Smith scored one goal in North Polk’s 2-0 victory over Tri-Center in the 1A quarterfinals on June 8. Larson provided steady play on both ends of the field against Tri-Center as well as in the Comets’ 1-0 semifinal loss to Center Point-Urbana on Friday.

The other members of the 1A all-tournament team were: Denver’s Johnnie Hill; Nevada’s Abby Stephenson and Kaylee Kruschwitz; CPU’s Alexa Coller and Adrianna Katcher and Assumption’s Anna Vonderhaar, Bridget Poster and Molly Gervase. Gervase was named the team captain after leading Assumption to its sixth state title in seven years.
