ALLEMAN - A difficult stretch continued for the North Polk softball team Monday as the Comets suffered a 6-4 home loss to South Hamilton.
North Polk couldn’t overcome South Hamilton’s big edge at the plate, suffering its fifth loss in seven games. The Comets dropped to 9-6 overall and 6-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
South Hamilton connected for 13 hits and North Polk only had three. Both teams scored three times in the third, but South Hamilton put up one in the second and two in the fifth and the Comets’ only other run came in the fifth.
Carolyn Steffen went 2-for-3 with two runs and a solo home run and Hannah Foster singled and drove in two runs for North Polk. Ellie Owen and Trisha Sporra both walked and scored once for the Comets.
Sophie Swygman allowed four earned runs on 13 hits with one strikeout and no walks in 5 ⅓ innings to take the loss for North Polk. Bailey Hougham threw 1 ⅔ scoreless innings in relief.

MONROE - The big bat of Rebecca Rimathe powered North Polk past Prairie City-Monroe, 7-3, for a Heart of Iowa Conference road win Friday in Monroe.
Rimathe homered twice and drove in five runs. North Polk ended up with nine hits as a team and pitcher Sophie Swygman gave up three earned runs on seven hits and two walks with one strikeout to get the victory.
North Polk plated three runs in the first inning, one in the third, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh. PCM scored twice in the third and tacked on one more score in the seventh.
Carolyn Steffen was 3-for-3 with a double, two runs and two steals and Trisha Sporra singled, walked and scored twice for North Polk. Paige Sandberg was 1-for-4 with an RBI and Bailey Hougham also singled once for North Polk.
Kayla Jennings allowed four earned runs with 11 strikeouts and two walks in seven innings for PCM in a losing effort. Jennings also doubled, homered and knocked in one run, and Katie Vande Wall drove in two for the Mustangs.

DES MOINES - North Polk couldn’t take advantage of opportunities on offense in a 7-1 loss to Saydel June 7 at Saydel High School in Des Moines.
Both teams had eight hits on the night — but Saydel was far more opportunistic on offense and that made all the difference.
Trisha Sporra was 2-for-3 with a double, walk, steal and run and Rebecca Rimathe ended up 2-for-4 with a double for North Polk. Paige Sandberg singled, walked and drove in a run; Carolyn Steffen walked and singled and Ellie Owen and Jenna Fagen each singled once.
Sophie Swygman was the losing pitcher. She allowed two earned runs with seven strikeouts and two walks in six innings.
ALLEMAN - A monster fourth inning by both teams ended up benefiting North Polk just a little more in a 14-13 Comet victory over Bondurant-Farrar in non-conference play June 6 at Alleman.
The two teams combined for an amazing 20 runs in the fourth inning. North Polk plated 11 runs and Bondurant-Farrar put up nine.
When the dust settled at the end of the fourth, North Polk was holding a 12-10 lead. Bondurant-Farrar scored one run in each of the next three innings, but the Comets plated two in the sixth to maintain their edge.
North Polk took advantage of 11 Bondurant-Farrar walks. The Comets also tallied eight hits.
Ellie Owen, Carolyn Steffen, Rebecca Rimathe, Sydney Anderson and Sophie Swygman each scored two runs for North Polk in the win. Owen also walked three times; Steffen had two hits and an RBI; Rimathe walked once; Anderson singled, walked and drove in a run and Swygman went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBI.
Hannah Foster was 2-for-2 with a walk, run and three RBI; Cali Capaldo singled, scored and drove in a run and Trisha Sporra walked and scored. Emily Patterson walked and drove in a run and Jenna Fagen walked once.
Swygman gave up two runs on three hits with two strikeouts in two innings to get the victory. Bailey Hougham threw 3 ⅔ innings and and allowed 10 runs — four earned — on 10 hits with two walks and Chloe Dougherty surrendered one run on two hits with one strikeout and walk apiece in 1 ⅓ innings.
Sydney Carroll was 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI and Isla Ekstam and Addie Ehlers each drove in two runs for Bondurant-Farrar. Riley Gilroy gave up 11 runs with 10 walks and seven strikeouts in six innings to take the loss for the Bluejays.
