ALLEMAN - North Polk used a strong finish to take out Collins-Maxwell-Baxter, 11-1, in five innings June 5 at Alleman.
After North Polk built up a 5-0 lead, CMB put up one run in the top of the fifth. But North Polk plated six runs in the bottom of the inning to end the game early
Jeff Lamp hit a two-run double and Mason Russell, Dawson Deitch and Colby Cupp each singled in a run for North Polk in the bottom of the fifth. The Comets also scored one run on a CMB error.
Cupp was 2-for-3 with a triple and two runs and Ben Rupe finished 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead North Polk’s 11-hit night on offense. Lamp and Payton Johnson also drove in two runs apiece and Colten Parkins ended up 1-for-2 with two runs, a walk and an RBI.
Rupe was the winning pitcher. He threw all six innings and gave up one unearned run on two hits with five walks and four strikeouts.
Brady Kemp took the loss for CMB. Kemp allowed seven earned runs on eight hits with three walks and two strikeouts in five innings.
Creighton Caple singled, walked and drove in the only Raider run. Derrick Klemme singled and scored, Travis Lindemoen walked twice and Kemp and Tucker Maxwell each drew one free pass.
North Polk improved to 6-3 overall and 3-2 in the Heart of Iowa Conference with the win. CMB dropped to 1-6 both overall and in the conference.
