JEWELL - North Polk easily overcame a slow start to whip South Hamilton, 11-1, in six innings Monday at Jewell.
The Comets trailed 1-0 after two innings of play. But they got hot in the third, pushing five runs across the plate to take charge.
North Polk added one run apiece in the fourth and fifth innings and then put up four runs in the sixth to end the game early. The Comets finished with 13 hits and pitchers Ben Rupe and Matthew Antle limited South Hamilton to two.
Antle came up huge on offense. He went 3-for-4 with four RBI.
Jeff Lamp was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI and Rupe ended up 2-for-4 with two runs. Colten Parkins was 1-for-4 with two runs; Colby Cupp and Payton Johnson singled, scored and drove in a run; Dawson Deitch was 1-for-3 with two RBI and Mason Russell singled and scored.
Rupe gave up one run on two hits with five walks and three strikeouts in six innings to pick up the victory. Antle tossed a scoreless sixth inning with one strikeout.
The win put North Polk at 9-4 overall and 4-3 in the Heart of Iowa Conference.
C.J. Hewitt gave up seven earned runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and one walk in five innings to take the loss. Zeke Balderas was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate for South Hamilton.

ALLEMAN - North Polk earned a strong non-conference win over Norwalk June 8 in Alleman as the Comets kept the Warriors off the board in six of seven innings in a 6-2 victory.
North Polk answered a two-run Norwalk fourth with three runs in the bottom of the inning. The Comets tacked on three more runs in the fifth and Jake Johnson blanked the Warriors over the final three innings to complete the win.
Johnson gave up eight hits and only walked one with three strikeouts in seven innings to earn the victory. Jeff Lamp was 3-for-4 with two runs and Colby Cupp finished 2-for-4 with three RBI as the top hitters for North Polk.
Anthony Capaldo was 2-for-2 with two runs; Dawson Deitch 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI; Colten Parkins ended up 2-for-4 with a double and Ben Rupe singled and drove in a run.
Orin Waters went 2-for-4 with a double and Cole Patava was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Norwalk on offense. Tucker Christensen was the losing pitcher after giving up three earned runs on eight hits with five strikeouts and two walks in four innings.

ALLEMAN - North Polk struggled to get the bats going against Saydel in a 5-0 loss to the Eagles June 7 at Alleman.
North Polk pitchers Colten Parkins, Colby Cupp and Ryan Spaulding combined to hold Saydel to four hits. But the Comets only manufactured three base knocks and they were hurt by two errors.
Saydel scored two runs in the fifth and three in the sixth. T.J. Stephenson got the win as he went the distance and struck out two with five walks.
Parkins took the loss after allowing three earned runs on three hits with four strikeouts and five walks in five innings. Spaulding threw a scoreless 1 ⅓ innings with no hits allowed and Cupp gave up two runs on one hit and three walks in ⅔ of an inning.
Parkins, Jeff Lamp and Adam Moxley each singled once for North Polk’s only hits off Stephenson. Cole Riddlebarger was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBI for Saydel with the bat.

LE GRAND - North Polk had a big night with the bat against East Marshall in a 15-2 non-conference win over the Mustangs in five innings June 6 at Le Grand.
The Comets drilled East Marshall pitchers Grant Curtis and Logan Bowie for 15 hits, including four extra-base hits. North Polk scored six runs in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth and four in the fifth to end the game early on account of the 10-run rule.
Jeff Lamp was 3-for-4 with a home run and five RBI and Ben Rupe finished 4-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Colten Parkins was 2-for-3 with two runs and three RBI; Jake Johnson finished 2-for-2 with a double and two runs and RBI apiece; Matthew Antle and Dawson Deitch both singled and drove in a run and Colby Cupp walked and scored twice.
Antle allowed two unearned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and three walks in four innings to get the win. Clark Hood didn’t give up a run, hit or walk and he struck out two in one inning of work.
Curtis took the loss after allowing 10 earned runs on 12 hits with one strikeout and walk apiece in four innings. Jordan McAnulty was 1-for-2 with a walk and a run offensively for the Mustangs.
