CARLISLE - Strong all-around play for 6 ½ innings was enough to get Ballard past No. 12 (Class 4A) Carlisle for a big Raccoon River Conference road win June 1 at Carlisle.

Ballard took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Bombers scored two runs apiece in the first, fourth and seventh frames.

One big blow from Taylor Dubois enabled Carlisle to cut that deficit in half in the bottom of the seventh. But the three-run homer by Dubois was all the Wildcats could get off Ballard pitcher, Abby Carlin, as the Bombers held on to improve to 2-0 in the RRC.

Carlin gave up just one earned run on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk, going the full seven innings to get the win. Isabell Hobbs was the hero on offense for Ballard as she tripled, homered, scored twice and drove in three runs.

Skylar Rigby doubled, walked and knocked in two runs and Maggie Larson singled and scored for Ballard. Rachel Newell singled and walked, Kiersten McKinney had a pinch-hit single and Carlin, Katie Sydnes and Karlee Ahrenholtz each drew one free pass.

Molly Hoekstra gave up four earned runs on five hits with three walks in five innings as the losing Wildcat pitcher. Dubois ended up 3-for-4 and Meredith Hoffman collected two hits for Carlisle.
