SLATER - The Ballard baseball team had a rough day at the Ballard Invitational Saturday at Nite Hawk Field in Slater.
The Bombers suffered a 13-3 loss to Webster City and 9-3 setback versus Gilbert. The two losses put Ballard at 2-7 on the season.
In the loss to Webster City, Ballard gave up three home runs and 13 hits. The Lynx scored six times in the first inning, three in the second and two apiece in the fifth and seventh frames.
Ballard put up one run in the first, fourth and seventh innings. The Bombers totaled eight hits.
Jack Luster was 2-for-4 with a double and a run; Austin Edwards went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a steal; Colin Anderson ended up 2-for-4 with an RBI and Reece Huen doubled and knocked in a run. Clayton Poots singled, walked and scored and Codey Erickson walked and crossed the plate once.
Will Stalder gave up six runs on four hits and two walks in ⅔ of an inning to take the loss on the mound.
Gannon Manfull allowed two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and three walks in 3 ⅔ innings. Taylor Roberts gave up two runs with three walks and two strikeouts in 1 ⅓ innings and Clayton Poots surrendered two runs on two hits with one strikeout in 1 ⅓ innings.
Bryan Ferrell gave up two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and two walks in five innings to earn the win for Webster City. Noah McKinney was 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI, Riley Mishler homered, doubled and drove in two runs and Corey Wagner went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI.
In the loss to Gilbert, the Bombers gave up six runs in the fifth inning. The two teams were tied at 2-2 through three and Gilbert scored one run in the fourth before breaking the game open.
Reece Huen was 3-for-3 with a double and a run and Erickson and Kade Reinertson each singled once for the Bombers. Cody Ihle walked and scored, Roberts crossed the plate once, Tanner Brock drove in a run and Manfull walked once.
Erickson took the loss against Gilbert after giving up four earned runs on three hits with two walks and one strikeout in one inning. Edwards allowed two runs on four hits with five walks and three strikeouts in three innings, Poots threw two scoreless innings and gave up one hit and Clay Estrem surrendered two runs on one hit and one walk.
Matt Barragy allowed two earned runs with three strikeouts and two walks in five innings to pick up the win for Gilbert. Steven Lawrence was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, three steals and three runs and Garrison Holck knocked in three runs for Gilbert.

CARLISLE - Ballard couldn’t solve Carlisle pitcher Nic McCay on Friday as the Bombers were no-hit in a 6-0 loss to the Wildcats in Carlisle.
Ballard only drew three walks as a team on offense, starting off 0-1 in the Raccoon River Conference. Codey Erickson picked up two free passes and Taylor Roberts drew one walk.
Colin Anderson was the losing Bomber pitcher. He allowed two runs on four hits with two strikeouts and walks apiece in five innings.
Hersch Maxey gave up one earned run on three hits in ⅔ of an inning and Roberts threw a scoreless ⅓ of a frame.
McCay ended up with 12 strikeouts to go along with three walks in seven innings. Ben Rowray was 2-for-2 with a double, walk, two runs and one RBI; Nate Mortimer doubled in two runs and McCay doubled and knocked in one run.

SLATER - Ballard struggled offensively all game and fell apart defensively in a 12-1 loss to Class 4A power Urbandale in six innings June 1 at Nite Hawk Field.
The Bombers only had two hits all game. Strong pitching from Hersch Maxey and Jack Luster kept Ballard in the game for three innings, but Urbandale busted out for four runs in the fourth and six more in the fifth to break the game open.
Luster took the loss after allowing eight runs - just two earned - on six hits with one strikeout in 3 ⅔ innings. Maxey didn’t give up a run or hit in ⅔ of an inning.
Gannon Manfull allowed four runs on six hits with no walks in 1 ⅔ innings for the Bombers.
Manfull and Taylor Roberts each singled and stole a base and Reece Huen walked, stole a base and scored for Ballard at the plate. Luster added one walk and Codey Erickson had a steal.
Casey Steen was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Noah Cook went 2-for-4 with three RBI for Urbandale. Carter Troncin was the winning Jayhawk pitcher as he allowed one run on two hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in 4 ⅓ innings.

INDIANOLA - Solid pitching wasn’t enough for Ballard against Indianola May 30 as the Bombers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Indians.
Austin Edwards, Colin Anderson and Hersch Maxey combined to hold Indianola to just five hits. But the Bombers only had one hit offensively.
Indianola scored three times in the third inning and added another run in the sixth. Ballard put up its run in the top of the sixth.
Edwards surrendered three runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings to take the loss. Maxey gave up one run on one walk with no hits allowed in one inning and Anderson tossed one scoreless inning, giving up one hit and walk apiece and striking out one.
Edwards singled for Ballard’s only hit. Reece Huen drew one walk for the Bombers.
Chayton Reif gave up one run on one hit with nine strikeouts and a walk in six innings to earn the victory for Indianola. Reif also homered and drove in three runs at the plate.
