STORY CITY — The Collins-Maxwell-Baxter baseball team used a strong finish to get past Roland-Story for its first win of the season Friday in Story City as the Raiders posted a 5-2 victory over the Norsemen.


The Raiders scored four runs over the final two innings to break a 1-1 tie. They plated two runs in both the sixth and seventh frames to take charge, and pitcher Creighton Caple finished off the Norsemen to put CMB at 1-2 on the season, as well as in the Heart of Iowa Conference.


Caple threw two scoreless innings in relief. He allowed just one hit and struck out five batters with no walks.


Travis Lindemoen picked up the win on the hill for CMB. Lindemoen surrendered two runs — just one earned — on one hit with nine strikeouts and three walks in five innings.


On offense, CMB totaled six hits. Brady Kemp led the way by going 3-for-4 with a double, home run, two runs and three RBI.


Lindemoen ended up 2-for-4 with one steal and run apiece. Cole Damman collected one single and Tucker Maxwell walked once and scored one run.

COLLINS — A poor showing with the bat and a rough start on the mound hurt Collins-Maxwell-Baxter in an 8-0 loss to Greene County May 25 at Collins.


CMB only tallied one hit all game. The Raiders also gave up all eight Ram runs over the first three innings


Brady Ross singled for the lone CMB base knock. Brady Kemp, Derrick Klemme and Jordan Barrett each drew one walk for the Raiders.


Bryce Bacon gave up four earned runs on one hit with one walk and one strikeout in 1 ⅓ innings to take the loss for CMB. Tucker Maxwell allowed four earned runs on three hits with with three strikeouts and two walks in 3 ⅔ innings and Carter Nelson gave up two hits and one walk with one strikeout in two scoreless innings of work.


Ben Wilkens gave up one hit and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings to earn the win for Greene County. Austin Delp doubled, scored and drove in a run for the Rams on offense.

COLLINS — Collins-Maxwell-Baxter never got in a groove offensively in a 7-1 season-opening loss to Nevada May 22 at Collins.


The Raiders only totaled four hits all game. They were also unable to take advantage of five Nevada walks.


Nevada did all of its damage early. The Cubs scored three times apiece in the second and third frames to break the game open.


Travis Lindemoen went 2-for-3 with a walk and Brady Ross and Brady Kemp each singled once for the Raiders. Creighton Caple walked and scored, Ian Thomson walked and drove in a run and Adam Smith and Derrick Klemme each drew one free pass.


Kemp gave up six earned runs on seven hits with four strikeouts and five walks in 3 ⅓ innings to take the loss. Caple struck out four with no walks in 3 ⅔ innings of relief.


Tyler Shafer gave up two hits with nine strikeouts and one walk in four innings to earn the win for Nevada. Shafer also went 2-for-2 offensively with two walks, runs and RBI apiece.
