ADEL - The Ballard girls’ golf team finished the season with a ninth-place showing at the Class 4A regional final meet at the River Valley Golf Course near Adel Monday.


Ballard shot a 448 over 18 holes to come in three strokes behind Adel-Desoto-Minburn’s eighth-place score. The Bombers beat out Winterset by 40 strokes for ninth out of 12 teams.


Lauren Smith was the top individual golfer for Ballard at the meet. Smith shot a 106, with nine-hole rounds of 50 and 56.


Abby Vincent carded a 109 with rounds of 53 and 56. Madison Smith finished with a 110 as she shot a 50 on the front and 60 on the back.


Madison Knutson turned in the final counted score for Ballard with a 123. Knutson put up a 62 on the front and 61 on the back.


Afton Stark and Brandelle McGinn also competed for Ballard. Stark shot a 136 and McGinn a 138.


Nevada and Creston were the two teams to advance to state from the region. Nevada won with a 374 and Creston shot a 378.


Nevada’s Claire Ausman was the medalist after shooting an 82, and Creston’s Ashton Carter came in medalist runner-up with an 83. Creston’s Sophia Groumoutis carded an 87, ADM’s Lindsey Lange an 88 and Pella’s Lauren VanWyk an 89 as the other individual state qualifiers from the meet.
