BAXTER - North Polk totaled four silver and bronze medals apiece and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter picked up three total medals in the boys’ competition at the Heart of Iowa Conference track meet May 2 in Baxter.


North Polk scored 77 points to place sixth out of nine teams in the boys’ field.


The Comet sprint medley team of Ben Rupe, Sutton Sears, Reid Summers and Grant Croat ran a school-record time of one minute, 38.97 seconds to come in runner-up behind Nevada’s 1:37.04.


Sears joined Purmon Greene, Colten Parkins and Quinton Sommers in running a second-place time of 1:04.33 in the shuttle hurdle relay. Gilbert won in 1:01.27.


Sommers also took second individually in the 400-meter low hurdles and third in the 110 highs.


In the 400 lows, Sommers ran a time of :57.92 to come in sandwiched between Gilbert’s Alex Sharp (:57.51) and Stephen Shuka (:57.95). Sommers completed the 110 highs in :16.09 to come in behind Sharp (:15.59) and Prairie City-Monroe’s Dustin Cole (:16.06).


Wes Lesher was runner-up in the 800 for North Polk. His time of 2:04.82 was just a hair behind the 2:04.13 run by Gilbert’s Keegan Sturdy.


Lesher also helped North Polk win a bronze in both the 4 X 800 and 4 X 400.


John Peterson, Flint Vernon and Will McCormick joined Lesher to run an 8:38.30 in the 4 X 800. Grant Croat, Michael Williams and Sommers teamed with Lesher to complete the 4 X 400 in 3:38.29.


Croat also placed third individually in the open 400 with a time of :53.84.


CMB placed seventh in the team standings with 67 points. The Raiders’ Will Clapper won the shot put and took third in the discus and Brady Kemp was runner-up in the shot.


Clapper’s best throw in the shot was 50 feet, 10 inches. Kemp peaked with a toss of 49-1.5.


In the discus, Clapper’s top effort was 133-10. PCM’s Noah Clark won with a throw of 142-3 and Roland-Story’s Zach Shadlow threw 139-5 to place second.


CMB also placed fourth three times.


In the long jump, Ben Huff had a fourth-place effort of 18-1. Carter Fricke came in fourth in the 400 with a time of :54.20.


The Raider shuttle hurdle team also placed fourth. Joe Keeling, Marcus Mitchell, Brett Livesay and Ben Gunderson joined forces to run a time of 1:05.74.


Gilbert dominated the boys’ team competition with 177 points. Nevada was a distant second with 96 points, Roland-Story took third with 87, PCM scored 81 points to place fourth and South Hamilton was fifth with a score of 79.
