OSKALOOSA - The No. 2 North Polk girls’ soccer team used a big game from Joy Smith on offense and another strong defensive outing to roll past Oskaloosa by a 3-0 score Friday at the Lacey Sports Complex in Oskaloosa.

Smith netted all three North Polk goals to earn her third hat-trick of the season and second in a row. Courtney Bonewitz dished out one assist for the Comets.

North Polk ended up with 12 shots on goal. Keeper Sawyer Elwell only needed to make two saves, thanks to another brilliant team defensive effort as the Comets earned their sixth shutout of the season.

The victory put North Polk at 6-2 on the season. Oskaloosa fell to 3-4.

ALLEMAN - North Polk emerged from a two-week break with a huge 4-0 victory over Dallas Center-Grimes April 27 at Alleman.

The Comets overpowered the traditional Class 2A power, scoring their fourth shutout in a row to go to 5-2 on the season.

North Polk got off nine shots on goal. Comet keeper Sawyer Elwell only had to make one save.
