ALLEMAN - North Polk won five events and placed second six times at the North Polk Invitational boys’ track meet Tuesday in Alleman.
The Comets claimed four relay titles and added an individual gold, scoring 101 points to just miss out on the team championship among five competing programs. BCLUW scored one more point than North Polk.
Ben Rupe, Mason Russell, Reid Summers and Grant Croat won the sprint medley relay in one minute, 40.32 seconds to beat out BCLUW by over two seconds for first. Wes Lesher, John Peterson, Flint Vernon and Will McCormick gave the Comets a win in the 4 X 800-meter relay with a time of 8:36.03 — topping East Marshall by nearly 17 seconds for the gold.
Reid Summers, Clark Hood, Croat and Lesher teamed to win the 4 X 200 in 1:37.58. East Marshall came in second at 1:40.10.
In the 4 X 400 Quinten Sommers, Croat, Michael Williams and Sears ran a 3:38.10 to beat East Marshall’s 3:42.84 for the gold.
Summers picked up an individual gold in the 200 and Sommers was second in the 110 high hurdles. Summers clocked in at :23.49 to outlast the :24.19 run by BCLUW’s Trey Dolphin and Sommers finished in :16.26 to place behind the :15.60 time of BCLUW’s Jack Gruber.
Mark Cox, Jeff Lamp, Williams and Sutton Sears each earned a silver medal in a field event for the Comets.
Cox took second in the shot with a throw of 43 feet, one inch and Lamp was runner-up in the discus with a toss of 114-9. East Marshall’s Justin Ridout won the shot with a throw of 48-5 and BCLUW’s Clay Silver just nudged past Lamp in the discus with a 114-10 effort.
Williams had a runner-up jump of 19-4 in the long jump. Kuemper Catholic’s Miles Rupiper won with an impressive jump of 21-7.25.
Sears topped out at 5-6 in the high jump. Rupiper also dominated this event, clearing 6-4.
