PELLA - For the second time in three games, the Ballard girls’ soccer team came up short in a shootout when the Bombers took on Pella Christian April 27 at Pella.


The Bombers were dealt a 2-1 loss by the Eagles. The Bombers were dealt a 3-2 loss by shootout against Carlisle six days earlier.


In the loss to Pella Christian, regulation came to a close with the two teams deadlocked in a 1-1 tie. Neither team could get on the board in two overtime periods to force the extra session.


In the shootout Sydney Halverson, Alexis Colman and Cassie Smith each converted for Ballard. But the Bombers came up short on their other two attempts and Carlisle managed to convert four attempts to pick up the win.


The loss dropped Ballard to 3-3 on the season. Steph Knittel scored Ballard’s goal in regulation and Laura DeZwarte netted the Pella Christian goal.


STUART - A big game from Steph Knittel helped Ballard get by Nodaway Valley/Adair-Casey/West Central Valley in a 4-3 battle April 21 at Stuart.


Knittel came up with a hat-trick to help lift Ballard to victory. She ended up with three goals on the night and Sydney Halverson added one for the Bombers.


Freshman Elizabeth Foster made five saves at keeper for Ballard. Josi Ocheltree netted two goals and Logan Jensen scored one for NV/AC/WCV.


CARLISLE - Ballard suffered a tough shootout loss to Carlisle by a 3-2 score April 21 at Carlisle.


The game was tied at 2-2 after regulation. In the shootout, Ballard received goals from Steph Knittel and Cassie Smith, but Carlisle drilled three penalty kicks to claim the victory.


Keeper Elizabeth Foster made 10 saves in a losing effort for Ballard.
