HUXLEY - North Polk and Collins-Maxwell-Baxter combined to win four events in Class B and Ballard took home two golds in Class A at the Ballard Invitational boys’ track meet April 18 at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley.


North Polk’s Reid Summers won gold medals in the long jump and both the 100 and 200-meter dash events, leading the Comets to a runner-up score of 112 points in Class B. Roland-Story won the Class B team title with 125 points and South Hamilton came in just behind North Polk with a score of 110.


Summers peaked with a jump of 18 feet, four inches in the long jump. Teammate Michael Williams came in third with a jump of 17-7 and Roland-Story’s Kade Faga was runner-up with a 17-10 effort.


Summers crossed the finish line of the 100 in :11.39 and the 200 in :23.05. Roland-Story’s Lydon Heifner took second in the 100 with an :11.64 showing and BCLUW’s Troy Dolphin was a distant second in the 200 after finishing in :23.88.


Sutton Sears and Quinten Sommers both won an individual silver for North Polk. The Comets were also runner-up in four relays.


Sears jumped 5-6 in the high jump to trail only the 5-10 effort by Roland-Story’s Sam Diehl. Sommers ran a :15.76 in the 110 high hurdles to come in behind the :15.08 by BCLUW’s Jack Garber.


The North Polk sprint medley team of Ben Rupe, Mike Russell, Grant Croat and Sommers ran a 1:40.98 to trail only Roland-Story’s 1:40.31. Rupe, Jake Johnson, Williams and Flint Vernon completed the distance medley in 3:58.28, with Roland-Story also being the only team to beat the Comets in this event after running a 3:57.23.


Rupe, Sears, Russell and Summers were runner-up in the 4 X 100 with a time of :45.86. Roland-Story won in :45.73.


Croat, Chris Banwart, Williams and Sommers were second in the 4 X 400 after finishing in 3:40.77. South Hamilton took gold in the event with a 3:38.66 showing.


CMB finished fourth in Class B with 105 points.


William Clapper won the shot put for CMB with a personal-record throw of 53-2 and teammate Brady Kemp took second with a toss of 50-10. Kemp also came in second in the discus with a throw of 122-5.


CMB placed second in both the shuttle hurdle and 4 X 200 relays.


Joe Keeling, Brady Geilenfeldt, Brett Livesay and Ben Gunderson ran the shuttle hurdle in 1:07.03 to come in behind BCLUW’s 1:06.06.


John Newton, Kemp, Braydon Aker and Jason Hillgren took silver in the 4 X 200 after running a 1:39.99. South Hamilton placed first in 1:37.97.


In Class A, Ballard scored 71 points to place fifth out of seven teams. Gilbert won the Class A crown with 145 points, Carlisle and DCG tallied 120 and 112 points respectively to place second and third, and Adel-Desoto-Minburn just edged out Ballard for fourth with a score of 72.


Hunter Wright and Noah Kohut-Jackson each won an individual event for Ballard.


Wright took first in the 100 with an outstanding time of :10.84. Kohut-Jackson completed the 1,600 in 4:43.53 to win the event by over 14 seconds.


Taylor Roberts and Isaac Schafbuch won individual silver medals for Ballard. They also helped the Bombers place second in the Class A shuttle hurdle.


Roberts cleared 5-8 in the high jump to come in behind the 5-10 jump by ADM’s Jacob West. Schafbuch clocked in at :58.46 in the 400 hurdles to trail only the meet-record time of :55.20 by Gilbert’s Alex Sharp.


Roberts and Schafbuch were joined by Nic Edwards and Sam Upah in running a time of 1:02.35 in the shuttle hurdle. Carlisle took first in 1:01.30.
