Through With Chew Week celebrated each year during the third full week of February is coming up fast. This year’s Through With Chew week, Feb. 19-23, 2018, is a time for education about the dangers of using spit and other tobacco products. The Thursday of this week, Feb. 22 is a day for those who are ready, to join others around the US in becoming tobacco free and nicotine free.
Spit tobacco use places users at higher risk for health concerns such as gum disease and tooth decay. Even worse, spit tobacco use is known to cause cancers of the mouth, esophagus and pancreas according to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention. Delta Dental’s website on tobacco use states, spit tobacco users are 50 times more likely to develop cancers of the cheek, gums and lining of the lips than non-users.
