Pastor Marvin Emanuel Nygaard, 98, of Owatonna, was called home to be with Jesus Christ his savior on Tuesday, February 26, 2014 at the Homestead Hospice house with his wife and children at his side.

Marvin was born on June 20, 1915 in Bazille Mills, Nebraska to Nels and Carrie (Jensen) Nygaard. He graduated from high school in 1933, and then attended Dana College, Blair, NE, graduating in 1938. He attended Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Blair, NE and then transferred to Grand View Lutheran Seminary in Des Moines, IA. He graduated in 1945 and was ordained in Feb. 1945.

While at Dana College Marvin met and married Eva Axelsen on June 17, 1940. They served three parishes in Iowa, two in Illinois, Dodge Center and Aurora Township in MN. From 1980-1993 Marvin was the visitation Pastor for Trinity Lutheran Church.

Marvin was a loving husband, devoted father and compassionate Pastor. He loved camping and traveling with his family on vacation and his calling as a Pastor.

He is survived by his wife Eva Nygaard of Owatonna; children, Joyce Nygaard of Rochester, Mary (Glen) Seresse of St Charles, Joy (Craig) Tweedt of Slater, IA, David (Vicki) Nygaard of Holyoke, CO, seven grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, brother, Gerhard Nygaard of Northfield and sister, Wilma Nygaard of Milton, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents Nels and Carrie Nygaard and son, John Nygaard.

Funeral services were held March 1, 2014 at Aurora Lutheran Church in Havana, MN with Pastor Charles Espe officiating. Private Family interment will be in the St. John Cemetery in Owatonna.
