Leona V. Larson, 94, of Ames, died on February 9, 2014 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, February, 14 at Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley, with The Rev. David Cline officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, February 13, also at Palestine. Burial will be in the Palestine Church Cemetery in Huxley.
Leona V. Larson was born on December 23, 1919 to Lewis B. and Julia (Halverson) Larson in Huxley, Iowa. She was baptized at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church in Huxley and confirmed at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames. She graduated from Shipley High School in 1938. Leona married Lester John Larson on September 9, 1944. Three children, Lloyd, Ruth and Donna were born to this union.
Before marriage, she worked at Donnelly’s and at the Story County Recorder’s Office in Nevada. After marriage, they farmed in the Huxley area before moving to Ames in 1979.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Donna Larson-Knox; two grandchildren, Angela (Greg) Hitt and Brandon Knox; and two great-granddaughters, Delaney and Emily, all of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; an infant son, Lloyd; her daughter, Ruth Ann; and one brother, Arnold Larson.
Memorials may be directed to Palestine Lutheran Church in Huxley.
