Dorothea Meyer, 87, formerly of The Reserve on Walnut Creek in Urbandale, passed away at Johnston Mercy Hospice on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 after a very short illness.

Dorothea was born March 31, 1927 in Berlin, Germany. June 30, 1948 she married Arnold Meyer of St. Paul, MN after arriving in the US. ‘Dotty’ and Arnold met and fell in love when Arnold was stationed in Berlin as part of the American Occupation after WWII where they spent three years together in Berlin falling in love and exploring Berlin together as Berlin came to life after WWII.

Arnold and Dotty lived in MN; Slater and Urbandale, IA. Dotty and Arnold raised their three children in Slater, IA moving to Urbandale after living 40 years in Slater and upon Dotty’s retirement from Hach Chemical, Ames, IA. Dotty loved family time best. Dotty and Arnold enjoyed spending time with all their friends including those from the German American Club.

Dotty planned for eternity and had accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Arnold; her parents and her brother. Survivors include her son, Gary (Colleen) Meyer; daughters Krista (Jim) Bowersox and Diana (Raymond) Harris; granddaughters Malia Meyer and Nicole (Charlie) Husak; grandsons Travis (Erin) Harris; Matt and Ben (Jennifer) Bowersox and Daniel, Samuel and Andrew Meyer; great-grandsons Owen Harris and Emmett Bowersox and great-granddaughters Anna Harris and Emma, Abby, Ella, Olivia and Isabel Husak.

Following her wishes, the body has been cremated. A memorial service was held Saturday, April 5th at Ankeny Memorial Garden Cemetery.
