Daniel Joseph VanErsvelde, 17, of Huxley, died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics from injuries suffered in a house fire.


Memorial Services were held Wednesday, Oct. 17, at the Ballard High School Gymnasium.


Rev. Emily Peasley officiated. Private inurnment will be at a later date.

Dan is survived by his mother, Julie McLain; two sisters, Jill and Alison; his grandparents, Robert and Ellen McLain, and Jim and Janet VanErsvelde; aunts and uncles, Bill McLain, Molly and Chad Tanke, Todd and Diane VanErsvelde and Troy VanErsvelde; and four cousins, Courtney VanErsvelde, Nicole VanErsvelde, Clayton McLain, and Eliana Tanke.


He was preceded in death by his father. Brett. on Oct. 7, 2018, and an uncle, Mike VanErsvelde, in 1994.


Dan was born July 8, 2001, in Ames, the son of Brett VanErsvelde and Julie McLain.


He attended Ballard School in Huxley. Dan was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church.


He loved art, especially using the computer or a tablet, and sidewalk chalk.


Dan participated in baseball with the Ankeny Miracle League, and loved swimming, riding his scooter and jumping on the trampoline.
