Richard Thomas "Dick" Reid, age 83, of Biggsville, Illinois, passed away at 9:50 P.M. on Monday, September 10, 2018 at the Great River Medical Center in Burlington, Iowa.
He was born on August 15, 1935 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Clarence C and Dorothy L. Smith Reid. Richard attended schools in Burlington, Iowa and attended the Burlington High School. Richard proudly served his Country, serving in the United States Marine Corps. While in the service, he was stationed in Japan. On May 24, 1958, he married Barbara Jean Webb in Burlington, Iowa, and she is surviving.
Dick began work after service in Maintenance at Vista Bakery in Burlington. He also has been in sales at Cycle Specialty and Actionland Boats and Campers, all in Burlington, Iowa. Dick has been a general contractor locally throughout his career, and has held various positions and had many jobs.
Dick has repaired golf clubs and also has constructed various clubs for individuals. He loved to play golf locally and also enjoyed woodworking and riding Harley Davidson motorcycles. Dick was known for mowing many yards for people in the town of Biggsville, at no charge.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Biggsville, Illinois and two daughters, Trina Adams (Tony) of Monmouth, Illinois and Judy Sweet (Bill) of Oquawka, Illinois. There are two grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren surviving. His sister, Mary Timmerman (Jack) of Florida and brother, Jack Reid (Linda) of Arizona also are surviving. Also a number of other relatives survive.
He is preceded in his death by his parents, one son, Rick, one brother, and four sisters.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 A.M. on Monday, September 17, 2018 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Oquawka, Illinois. Dick's family will be present for visitation from 10:00-11:00 A.M. prior to the service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be presented at the service.
As were Dicks' wishes, cremation is being accorded.
A memorial fund is being established for the Reid Park Maintenance in Biggsville, IL.
