Naomi “Jean” Winsor, affectionately known as “Grannie” by her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5th.
She was born on December 28, 1932, in Colo, Iowa to Omer and Myrtle Farren. She graduated from Colo High School in 1950 and then went on to attend Simpson College. On February 14, 1953, Naomi married Kenneth Winsor, to whom she was married for 40 years and then divorced in 1993. After raising her 2 daughters, she went to work for Iowa Diabetes and Endocrinology as a medical assistant. Upon retirement, Naomi found enjoyment in reading, volunteering, attending bible studies, and chatting on the phone with her many friends and family.
Her biggest accomplishment was that she had lived with diabetes for over 72 years with only a few health setbacks. She was passionate in helping fellow diabetics in managing their condition.
She is survived by her two daughters Cindy (Tim) Rzonca and Kathy (Jeff) Timmons both of Arizona, plus six grandchildren; Ashley (Tadd) Fagerud, Emiley (Ashley Bungert) Bernero, Joshua Bernero, Alex Timmons and four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Naomi was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Richard Farren and Wayne Farren, a sister Cora Marie Lathrum and son-in-law Edward Bernero.
A private family interment will be held at the Colo Cemetery in Colo. Dunn’s Funeral Home in Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to the American Diabetes Association (ADA).
