Paul Harvey was on our radio every noon and evening, as I recall. Maybe just once, two times repeated.
He never had a gloom and doom story to tell. My parents never missed hearing him. They hung on his words. The economy wasn’t nervous and ready to clench the gun grip, and know how close the ammo box was at all times. Now people have bug out bags, water stashed, dried food in 6 month allotments. Why are we making ourselves so crazy?
Between the unerringly toxic radio content from Fox and local stations that barrages our ears every day, and the constant advisements to buy gold, to obtain food for the bomb shelter, and the non stop fear spewing from Trump as he tries to engage North Korean dictator in a sumo wrestling contest of ballsiness, I see our economy and society disintegrating. The freakout shootings are just a manifestation of this insidious dark evil we are allowing to permeate our lives. People start listening to inner demons haunt them with fear, and a few of them act out, when they can’t quiet the voices.
It’s a slow, silent thing. People stay in. They clench money instead of spending. They focus hard on debts, try to hold even or reduce against the onslaught of constant increases and takings by all these entities we are compelled to drag along as they bind onto our ankles. I am talking the property taxes, the ever increasing water and gas bills, the insane medical up 100% from just a handful of years ago, all while our wages suck. Stuck in 1980 deflated dollars while we had 3 decades of increase. My house valued 25,000 then. Now its 5 times that. My tax bill increased about that much in percentage, and my wages – shameful. Just shameful.
All our local issues, the horrible attendance at good venues like Steamboat Days, or trying to support Venue Works shows, even Capital Theater attendance, are limited to the few who have some discretionary dollars. The gray hairs tell you who is attending, because they can, versus those who cannot spend.
We would be far better, our businesses more vibrant if not a single Republican agenda item had gotten enacted. All these big business trickle down rationale are written by the devil as the biggest lie in history. All these policies are making our quality of life miserable. Crushing the wage increases the ruling class took for themselves is what setup this mess. And the result – homeless people a constant in our town, and hopeless people who are hungry turn to street drugs, offered free to start you off. Then our taxes skyrocket trying to cope.
If you want change, shut down the toxic spewers, foremost Kim Jung Un and Donald Trump, because bullies lose their influence when they are ignored. When they have no audience for their fat man’s Samurai dance, maybe we can start finding some solace and begin to actually live again. BTW, when a starving North Korea wants food, they shoot off missiles. It’s just like a hungry dog, barking incessantly. Solve the food, solve the crises. This global warming thing is the real deal, and it ruined their crops, just like other countries in the region. We have our own crop failures going on so we shouldn’t fight that logic.
