Lawrence A. “Pete” Henson, 84, of Canton, Missouri, died at 9:03 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2017, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Ill.

Born April 17, 1933, in Allen County, Kentucky, he was the son of Euke E. and Eula A. Taylor Henson. On July 18, 1953, he married Ruth Lovell in Colusa, Illinois. She died in 2016. 

Mr. Henson graduated from Colusa High School in 1952. He served in the U. S. Army, receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. He was a member of Steel Workers Local 444 and Burnside Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Ward of Carthage, Illinois, and Sharon K. Spory of Wayland, Missouri; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; four brothers, Leroy Henson of Nauvoo, Illinois, Harold Henson of Hamilton, Illinois, Larry Henson of St. Louis and Joe Henson of Fort Madison.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother and stepfather, one brother, two sisters and one stepsister.

Visitation with the family will be 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Printy Funeral Home in Carthage.

The funeral for Mr. Henson will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Thornber Cemetery near Powellton. 

A memorial fund has been established.
