Sonja Kay Pohl, 72, passed away unexpectedly on April 4, 2017. Sonja was a resident of Lake Placid, Florida since 1997.
Sonja was born on September 5, 1944 in Des Moines, Iowa to her parents, Lester Wesley Moore & Velma May Drake. Born & raised in central Iowa she had one son from her first marriage (Fred Mason) – Bart. She was a great mother to her son.
Sonja married Walter Pohl on August 8, 1987 in Sula, Montana. Walt remained at her side as life carried them from Corvallis, Montana to Grimes, Iowa & ultimately to Lake Placid, Florida. She had many hobbies & interests. She was an avid doll collector & had an extensive collection of Kewpie dolls. She also collected teddy bears & enjoyed crafts & sewing projects. She loved to cook & always was playing around with a new recipe. She was an outstanding cook - if she did not find her way into your heart through her friendship, she probably found it through your taste buds. Most importantly, she made many life-long friendships along the way. Quite simply, to know Sonja was to love Sonja.
Sonja is survived by her husband, Walt of Lake Placid; her only son Bart Mason (Michele) from Coralville, Iowa; and two grandchildren, Matt & Andrea. She is also survived by her brother, Brian Moore (Pam) of Sheldahl; nieces Lindsey Frye and Maria Moklestad; nephew Justin Moore; and 3 great nieces & nephews.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 3:30 pm at the United Methodist Church in Slater, Iowa for friends & family to honor, remember and share their love for Sonja.
