Two central Iowa men were arrested after authorities said staff at the Maxwell State Bank called to report a ‘suspicious’ subject who tried to enter the back door of the bank.
Brian Brutus, 32, of Ames, was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon — knife over 5 inches, and Antwane Lee, 19, of Johnston, was charged with second-degree theft.
According to Story County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Barry Thomas, employees at the Maxwell State — 122 Main Street — reported that a suspicious subject attempted to enter the bank through the back door around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. Thomas said the subject was unable to enter as the door was locked, and subsequently left.
After a witness obtained vehicle descriptions linked to the subject that approached the bank, Thomas said a Story County deputy located two vehicles in the Collins city park, one of which was reported as stolen.
Thomas said that though no charges have been filed in connection with the April 10, robbery at Maxwell State Bank, the Story County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a potential link.
